Update on WereDragon: Both the Game and the Novel
posted on January 11, 2016

[Update] It's now more likely that I will seek a publisher instead of launching on kickstarter for the game.

First, the board game. Before that, I should call your attention to the right side of screen where one can sign up to be notified of the kickstarter, when things finally get to that point.

Now, about the game. I recently started using a new trial version of Adobe Illustrator and have been creating new graphics. Things are looking so much better than they have before. But of course you don't have to take my word for it, since you see all the images right in front of you:

WereDragon Melee - Bittersweetness of Good Feedback
posted on November 17, 2014

KS Cover
As I've mentioned, I've been developing a tabletop game called WereDragon Melee which I will plan to relaunch on kickstarter. I recently joined the Gameboard Developers Guild in Salt Lake City. Last Tuesday, I had the opportunity to have them test it. The feedback was immensely valuable, which of course means having my work cut out for me, but that's a good problem.

I went ahead and did a blind test with them, where they had figure out the game on their own, using the rules. I, of course, clarified things they obviously wouldn't know, such as what the prototype pieces in the bag correspond to what components referred to by the rules. I'm glad I did the blind test. I overhauled the rulebook due to what I discovered.

WereDragon Novel Progress
posted on November 03, 2014

This last Tuesday, I received feedback back after having WereDragon looked at for editing. I'm now going through the suggestions and making improvements to the manuscript. Things are getting that much closer for prime time.

Due to some of the feedback I received and came to agree with, some of the content will be moved from WereDragon into what will be the new Book 2 of the series. This I'm considering the title, The Peacebringer's Commission. So book 1 is about Stag accepting his Peacebringer calling and book 2 is about his quest to fulfill it. With this book 1 will have better conformity to a "Save the Cat" three act structure. Google "Save the Cat" if you don't know what I'm talking about there.

The editor is female, so I appreciate the woman's touch to my story. I received helpful suggestions in improving the romantic aspects, making it pop. She also suggested cuts to some battle scenes and what not outside the POV of the main character and his love interest, making me say, "Hold on, let's not turn this into WereDragon Twilight, shall we?"

I will cut some of what she suggests cutting, especially toward the front where it'll help things flow better and also others have commented on. A good rule of thumb in deciding what to do about feedback is if you hear the same thing from more than one person, it's more likely to be right.

Now back to the work I have cut out for me, no pun intended.

WereDragon Melee Kickstarter Postponed
posted on October 20, 2014

Thanks to all those who've helped support my WereDragon Melee board game on kickstarter. However, the time has come for me to cancel the project for the time being as I gear up for a bigger and better launch in January (more specific date TBD), utilizing what I've learned from this one to be more prepared for success. So let's do this! Blow it out of the water in January!

WereDragon Melee Progress 2
posted on September 08, 2014

KS Cover copy
Here's where things are at now, regarding my WereDragon Melee tabletop game, launching on kickstarter Oct 7 (SPREAD THE WORD and join the facebook event).

First, I've had more opportunities for game testing and refining, ironing out the kinks. Things are coming along.

I'm getting a quote from a different manufacturer than the one I was originally looking at. The first one was good and reputable, but not really a good fit for kickstarter projects.

The new one I found will allow for 500 minimum order which is much better, allowing for a substantially lower goal, though I'm still waiting the quote. Also, they provide a warehousing and ordering service which will make getting games out so much easier than if I had to do that myself. They do prototyping too, so I wish I found them earlier.

Fortunately, this is a company that moves much faster with the quoting process than the last one, so my kickstarter can still be on schedule for Oct 7.

I mentioned in my last post that I'm making a tabletop game called WereDragon Melee inspired by my WereDragon stories. I plan to launch a kickstarter for it Oct 7.

Things are coming along. I hired a sculpture to design the game tokens. Her sketches are promising. I completed more of the artwork for the different components, increasing in my photoshop skills as I do so.

I've done some game testing mainly with my roommate and some of his friends. I'm recognizing now that perhaps the most thing that needs to happen between now and Oct 7 is much more extensive game testing.

I'm contemplating how to most effectively reproduce the tiles for the game so that I have more prototypes to work with for testing. The prototype I currently have was cut out by hand, extremely tedious. I'll look into what services copy shops have and that to make this more efficient.

In the meantime, regarding the WereDragon novel, I've got people looking into it for professional editing. They are kindly and willingly offering me their services for free after learning about my circumstances. So very generous of them.

Board Depiction
I'm making a tile based game inspired by my Weredragon stories. In this game, you battle to the death to be the last WereDragon (or dragon animorph) standing. Choose from eight breeds, each with a special power. It'll support 2 to 8 players.

Almost There, Almost There
posted on May 20, 2014

My WereDragon novel is getting close to completion. The verge is getting more ... wait for it ... vergier!

How much vergier-ly-ness-a-ism? Well, let me stop butchering English and tell you. I'm past the climax and into the wrapping up phase of the story.

The next step will be to do editing and revising on what I recently wrote to get it up to par with the rest of the novel, which has all been through multiple passes previously, including some critiquing, things like that.

So, yes, that is some verge!

I'll then go through editing services for the spit shine. Then I'll rock people's socks off with it.

Pubslush Campaign for WereDragon
posted on April 22, 2014

[Update May 11] This is going to be pulled this week, because the campaign hasn't raised anything. Don't worry, this doesn't mean I'm giving up on WereDragon. I'm still very much committed to it and it's getting really close to completion. I learned valuable things from this to make crowdfunding that I will do in the future more effective.

Next week on the 29th, the campaign for my fantasy novel, WereDragon, will go live at weredragon.pubslush.com. At the moment, the link only directs you to the pubslush homepage. The campaign will end May 29, so gotta get it done, including a video for the campaign.

About Time for a WereDragon Status Update, Eh?
posted on November 08, 2013

I haven't mentioned for a while where I'm at on my progress in my WereDragon novel. The first draft is getting close. There's still a little ways, but its close. But this is not to say that all of the manuscript is in the first draft stage, because earlier parts have been reworked with more than one pass. I'm excited how the story is coming along.

Next week starting Monday, I'll be attending David Farland's Writer's Mastery Camp. If I don't complete the first draft there, then I should be able to get it together by the end of November. Then it will be time to rewrite until things are ready to go. In the meantime, I'll plan on posting again at the end of November to report on how this all went.

By the way, on a related note, one of the ideas I'm entertaining for a story module for Sojourer Tales (see my last blog post for explanation) is one that takes place in my WereDragon world. In any case, I'm excited to contribute story modules to this, which I'll keep you posted on. But first to get this novel out of the way!
